Hey PT,
If you are planning to cover this in the upcoming family series we can discuss it then…
1st the scripture…then the question. Ephesians 5: 22-27 (KJV) 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Well I am not a wife so let me focus in on verses 25 and 26 read from the NLT 25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.
You know I’ve read these verses countless times but will admit I am trying to gain a better understanding and hopefully submit myself more to Jesus Christ.
I know I should love my wife as Christ loves the church. I can read all about love in I Corinthians 13. The as Christ loved the church part…well let’s just say I am working on that…not even sure how I could love another person as Christ loved the church.
There really is a question coming… Am I even in the ballpark here?
Verse 26 seems to imply my action or inaction, impacts her results. I’ve read, prayed, meditated for several weeks and really not heard anything from God that helps my understanding. I really don’t need an understanding of verse 26 to understand and embrace verse 25. I’m not losing any sleep over this, I just want to be the best husband I can be for the glory of God.
